About the Album “Saiyyaan”
How does one describe Saiyyaan? Is it a travelogue written in pain, a brief pause
in the flow of time, a race to meet the sun, a drop in the ocean of eternity, a
whiff of a long forgotten fragrance, or a legend? It is all of these and none of
these. It is much, much more than just a love story gone wrong. It is a testimony
to the impermanence of our lives and the strange role played by fate in shaping
our destiny.
Saiyyaan is a tale of a man’s journey into himself; a bittersweet trip to purge
himself of the loss of his beloved; a desperate attempt to relive the past and to
heal a self-inflicted wound; a vain attempt to accept the reality and make peace
with his soul.
Our protagonist drives his jeep through a dreary landscape dotted with gnarled trees
and dusty bushes. It mirrors the feelings in his heart and the trail of the tires
on the yellow sands seem to mock his weak attempt to wrest his past back.
The irony lies in the fact that he is heading to the same spot in the mountains
where he used to rendezvous with his girlfriend and had spent many blissful, happy
hours soaking in the beauty of the surroundings. Now, the same location draws him
forward and seeks to engulf him in its cruel beauty and pull him down into its dark
abyss…
